Arch • No sound only for 44100 sample rate

Hi all,

I would still consider myself a novice, but I usually manage to solve my problems reading the different forum posts. However on this specific one I cannot seem to find an answer.

I am running a Pi 3 B Rev 1.2 with Arch. I mainly use it for audio output (MPD via Alsa) which suddenly stopped working: I do not receive any error message, I just do not hear any sound out of my speakers.
After hours of troupleshooting I was able to narrow it down:
1) Using mplayer, if I play a sample wav file (48hz) in pretty much any sample rate (48000, 32000, 22050, ...), sound is output correctly
2) Using mplayer, if I play the sample wav file (48khz) in 44100 sample rate I hear.... nothing.

The 44100 sample rate is what I have most my MP3s / FLAC files in and what MPD tries to put out as well ( if I cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params). If I force MPD to re-sample to 48000 in the mpd.conf (format 48000) I hear sound, however the re-sampling causes the pitch to be to high.

Coming to my question: Any idea, why my Pi will not output 44100 sample rate?
