By way of a disclaimer, this concerns an old Pi (3B+) which has been running headless for a number of years as a TVHeadend server, so it has not previously been connected to any kind of display and because it has been tucked away doing its job for all of this time it is also running an older version of Raspberry Pi OS (buster). I do appreciate that this is now a much older release and I will upgrade if I have no other options, but it's one of those "if it ain't broke..." scenarios when it comes to the services it is running and I will continue to run it headless if needs be.
Having recently moved the unit it is now within touching distance of an 19" no-name brand 720p LCD TV. The TV has an HDMI input and normally has a Panasonic DVD recorder connected so I know the HDMI port on the TV does work.
However, having tried to connect the old Pi3 to it, the TV stares blankly at me showing the message "No video available".
Reboots have made no difference, nor has a change of HDMI cable (3 different ones).
I have also tried changing settings in config.txt - namely hdmi_force_hotplug = 1 and hdmi_safe=1 - both individually and together, rebooting after each change and this hasn't changed the situation.
I've also tried config_hdmi_boost=4 as the comment suggests it may help with no display over HDMI, but as before it has made no difference.

I've since read about using the Display Settings option in raspi-config to set a screen type/resolution trying CEA (for TV) modes 3 & 4, but again this has not resulted in anything being displayed on the TV following a reboot.
Can anyone suggest anything else I could try and if the settings I've previously tried aren't the right ones for this situation do they need to be commented out again?
