General discussion • Alternate Power Supply

I'm getting rather frustrated with the Pi 5 and it's power issues. I've purchased the genuine Pi 5 power supply and I'm still getting the error message on screen, not every time but quite frequently. I have the Pi 5 with an extender board that provides me with standard size HDMI ports and the interface for an NVME SSD. Ideally I would like to use a 5V 8Amp PSU that I pulled from something a while back to power the Pi and some extra accessories but so far no luck. I connected this PSU to a female USB A connector but when I power up the Pi it never turns on, obviously requires the PD spec connection. I can run the Pi off of it if I bypass the USB C connector and connect directly to the board but then my expansion board doesn't get power.

Would anyone know what is required to emulate the 5Amp PD port on the official PSU.

Thanks
