Troubleshooting • Windows folder for Pi is denying access all of a sudden

Hi Pi users

Im relatively new to the Pi however I've set up my plex account with the Pi and everything is going well until I came across an issue.
I had to shut down the pi as had to check my external hard drive for about 30 minutes via Open Media Vault.
I re connected and carried on as normal - I had a movie I wanted to add to the plex by using my pc laptop as the folders to the plex are there ready and dragged the file as usual to the folder to find I didn't have permissions anymore - slightly miffed I went into Open Media Vault and checked the drive and the smb etc was correct, nothing changed, I had everything the same as before.
I went to properties to get the Write box activated but access denied, so after 4 hours I gave up - windows not helping one bit I almost threw the damn thing out the window.
Has anyone had the same issue? as my only option going forward is to just shut the pi down and plug the external into my computer and drag and drop that way, but I shouldn't have to do this.
only thing windows annoys me is - it always tells you what you can't do and never helps.
