General discussion • RP as a HD Media Player

I intend to use a RP i5 as a media player using an external HD containg 720/1080 files.

Software options are libreelec and RP desktop with VLC Player and KODI.

Can anyone offer any advice/settings for acheiving the best results from using this set up?
